One bottle of this wonderful Meursault Genevrieres Cuvee des Pierres Premier Cru 2004, the special cuvee from 50+ year old vines that see 100% new wood for 12 months and one year oak thereafter until bottling. From the beautiful vineyards of Domaine Latour-Giraud.

Tasting note

"   As one would expect from the wood regimen, this is generously oaked with an opulent and extremely spicy nose that complements the equally opulent, even unctuous flavors where citrus and mineral aspects give lift and firmness to the extract-drenching flavors that seem almost mildly tannic by comparison. This is classy juice and could easily give many a grand cru a good run - just be aware that this isn't for the oak sensitive"  91-94 points Allen Meadows, Burghound.com

Domaine Latour-Giraud

Charles and Maxime, the 2 grandfathers Giraud and Latour, gave their names to the top quality Meursault Villages from the Domaine Latour-Giraud. Jean-Pierre is known in the region as one of Meursault’s best winemakers. The estate underwent a dramatic revival when he took over in the 1990’s. The village wines are aged in one-quarter to one-third new oak barrels. Jean-Pierre Latour’s wines are classic white Burgundies: intense and concentrated, stylish and powerful, layered and balanced.

The Latour-Giraud Meursault combine lemon-pear-quince-citrus fruits with the characteristic mineral qualities of the soil and layers of sweet vanilla oak and toast.

Jean-Pierre Latour ferments only free-run juice with wild, natural yeasts. The premier cru wines are aged in 40-70% new barrels depending on the character of the wine and the vintage. The wines are kept on their lees as long as possible and racking is kept to a minimum. They are fined, but not filtered, and bottled by hand. Jean-Pierre carefully monitors each wine and bottles each when it is ready over the course of six months.
